2003-10-16 - 1:36 p.m. If you've never had Strep throat, thank the good lord. It is TERRIBLE! I had it a couple of weeks ago, and it was bad. Along with the worst sore throat I've ever had, I had a fever and body aches. It was terrible. You know what's weird? The hardest thing for me to swallow was orange juice. It burned the most! Maybe it has to do with the citric acid... I returned to Kahaluu elementary school this week, after being out sick one week and the kids having inter-session the next. Yesterday I had a group of the 5-6 year old SPED kids for a language activity, and they were out of control! Such bad kids! I made a nice activity where I read them a book about fishing, then we talked about different animals in the sea, then we made tunafish and crackers. The kids kept grabbing at my book and pictures, they wouldn't stay in their seats, and no one wanted to eat the snack! One of my therapy targets is social language, so I was trying to have the kids ask for things and pass things to each other instead of pulling. No success. Today I went to school, and my supervisor called and said she wouldn't be in because her kids had ukus. She gave me the option of staying or going home. I am not suppose to give therapy without 25% supervision, so I decided to go home. I did go to the preschool because they could use the help. To my good fortune, it was fieldtrip day! They took a walk over to the firestation. So much fun! I'm just a big kid myself, so I had just as much fun as the kids did. I sat with the kids on the grass as the firemen talked, while the other adults stood behind.. hehe. It was great, the kids got to see all the cool tools the firefighters use to get people out of houses and car wrecks. Then the kids got to use the hose! One of the firefighters even put on his whole uniform for the kids to see. One of the kids got scared when he put on his mask, and he jumped on my lap. It was cute. He wrapped his arms around my neck and burried his head in my shoulder. Such a cutie. I haven't been on a field trip in years, so this was an AWESOME day for me! I think the last fieldtrip I went on wasn't half as fun! Working with kids of different ages makes me realize that I love to work with the preschool population. I love to see the inital language emergence. It's so rewarding! Plus they are adorable (minus the runny noses and dirty hands). I think i'm gonna love my job ;)
